As a nurse practitioner, I understand the importance of a nourished body. Our world has a wealth of food that is nutrient rich but it can be a culture shock to change our diets to consume them, especially when we’re wanting to lose weight fast. So what do we do? We supplement! Let’s be clear, I am not here to promote supplements over natural food but I am here to help you achieve weight loss fast while maintaining a nourished system.
While creating LCF diet, I compiled a list of important supplements to keep your insides in tip top shape as you slim down.
First up is Potassium. Potassium is an electrolyte that works with sodium to manage fluid retention. We all know how much of an obstacle fluid retention can be to weight loss. The average person retains up to 5lbs or more of water weight. Potassium also has important roles in muscle contraction and nerve signal transmission. Regular intake of potassium keeps the heart beating at a normal pace. Those who maintain a diet high in potassium are less likely to suffer a stroke, osteoporosis or kidney stones.
POTASSIUM
Next is Magnesium. Magnesium is an electrolyte essential in the process of metabolism and energy production. It helps to maintain muscle and nerve function, normal heart rhythm. This supplement helps the body to relax and let go of stress which contributes to a more restful sleep.
MAGNESIUM
Pop quiz! What’s the nutrient most advertised encouraging us to drink milk? You got it, Calcium. The body requires calcium to maintain strong bones. It also plays a role heart, muscle and nerve function. Calcium is encouraged to be taken with vitamin D which may have benefits of protecting against cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
CALCIUM
This is a perfect segue for, you guessed it, Vitamin D. Calcium is only absorbed in the body when there is a presence of vitamin D. It regulates many cellular functions in the body thus supporting immune, brain, nervous, respiratory and cardiovascular systems in the body. Those with darker pigmented skin are at risk for a deficiency because vitamin D (from the sun) is not easily absorbed through high levels of melanin. Vitamin D has also been shown to improve mood in those experiencing negative emotions.
VITAMIN D3
In the alphabet, and going backwards, what comes before D? Hello to Vitamin C! Everyone knows vitamin C as the one that pumps up the immune system to help fight off a cold and that’s indeed true. It has a host of other benefits from growth and development, body tissue repair, formation of collagen and absorption of iron.
VITAMIN C
Are you realizing just how important all these nutrients are? Now, lets talk about Zinc. It’s an important nutrient that assists in immune and metabolic functions. It also has a role in our sense of taste and smell. How important is that during a diet? Very.
ZINC
Collagen is a very popular protein supplement known for its positive beauty and joint affects. Collagen supply is good for skin and elasticity all over the body. These stores begin to decrease around the age of 30. While LCF diet doesn’t demand exercise during the plan (due to low calorie intake) we definitely promote a daily active stretch routine (LCF daily stretch on YouTube). If Collagen levels are low, the body will be quite stiff and more prone to injury. What’s special about this formulation of supplement is that the ones suggested work together to establish the best condition for each others absorption. For example, Collagen works best in the presence of Zinc, Silica and Vitamin C. The Zinc supplement linked above contains Silica.
COLLAGEN
The final supplement on this awesome list is Fish Oil. Fish oil is an Omega 3 fatty acid which are vital for many functions from muscle activity to cell growth. It has been shown to minimize the storage of fat in the body. Research shows that high levels of Omega 3’s in the blood may extend ones life by 5 years. Another study proved remarkable memory improvements in Alzheimer’s patients who took the supplement day and night for 6 months. Also improved attention span in children diagnosed with ADHD in comparison to the leading prescribed medication. Needless to say, fish oil, will help with mind clarity and focus. This is definitely needed during your weight loss journey and would be smart to take or prioritize consuming in your diet for life.

Also, lets toss a multivitamin in there for good measure. This will make certain that the full panel of needed nutrients are covered.
MEN'S DAILY WOMEN'S DAILY
During my journey I had some disastrous incidents carrying my vitamins in cheap pill case. I’d be remised if I didn’t share with you the best pill case EVER! I love this case because I can prep my supplements for the entire week and take just one slot with me on the the go.
PILL ORGANIZER
It is important to mention that those with liver or kidney disease or disorders are advised against this supplemental regimen. It is vital that these organs are in good health so the body will absorb nutrients needed and release any excess via urine. Those with low functioning organs may run the risk of accumulating high levels of these nutrients which could lead to bloody toxicity.
